Communion: F.O.C.U.S.As I have been thinking about communion this week, I have been
thinking about it is great to have a time each week where we stop and
remember Jesus and what He has done for us. It is good to be able to
stop and focus. John 8:36 – So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. Remember the freedom you have in Christ. We are free from the power
of sin and death, free of the worries and cares of this life and free of
the fear of death and where we will spend eternity. So live as a child
of God. John 16:33 – I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” If you are born of God, you are an overcomer. Jesus said that He has
overcome the world. We are with Christ and He promises to never leave us
or forsake us. So overcoming should be the default setting for us. Joshua 24:15 – But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD Commit your ways to the Lord. Joshua, who made this statement,
decided not to follow the gods of his ancestors or the gods of the local
people, he chose firmly to serve the Lord God, the God of the Bible and
the maker of heaven and earth. Communion is a great time to commit or
re-commit your ways to the Lord. 1 Peter 5:10 – In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So, after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. Understand that suffering does not last forever, and that God will
restore, support and strengthen you. It is a promise from the King.
Suffering has a way of making our worlds smaller and insular. But Christ
includes us in HIs Kingdom. His death for us opens eternity to us. It
makes our worlds much larger. We need to understand our current troubles
are small in light of eternity. Colossians 3:1-2 – Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. Set your heart and mind on things above. When our hearts and minds
are focused on things above, our lives naturally rise above the worries
and cares of life. As the old song says our feet are lifted out of the
miry clay and placed on solid rock.
Let us give thanks for the bread and the cup. By Dave Quinn
