Let God be your Master

Romans 6:12-14 NLT – Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. [13] Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. [14] Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

Three keys from this passage teach is a lot about sin and living for God.

1. Do not let – the passage uses the terms “do not let” twice. The first is do not let sin control the way you live. The second is do not let any part of your body serve sin. The do not let implies we have a choice to sin or not. We don’t have to sin, we choose it on many occasions when we have the power to say no.

2. Give yourself to God – verse 13 tells us to give ourselves completely to God. If we are wholeheartedly living for God and serving Him wholeheartedly, then sin is not on our radar. We are so focussed on God that our hearts and minds are more concerned with His Kingdom than the things of this world, including sin.

3. God is our Master – verse 13 tells us that sin is no longer our master – God is. We are no longer slaves to sin and we no longer live under the law. We live in God’s Kingdom and in the freedom of His wonderful grace. The sin which used to have a stronghold over us does not rule our lives. Christ’s death on the cross for us, broke the chains of sin and we are free to live for God.

So sin does not need to have a hold on us and rule our lives. We are ruled by God as our Master. Let us choose to live wholeheartedly for God and serve His Kingdom today.

God Bless,
