8 things that encourage me when I preach

March 16th, 2017

One of the things I love about my job is that I get to speak 3-4 times per month at church. I work hard at preparing my sermons and I really enjoy when people are encouraged.

Today I was thinking about the things that encourage me in my preaching. They are the things that make me want to work hard in the preparation and prayer-peration.

Here is my list I came up with…

  1. When people are really getting what you are saying – you can see it on their faces and in their body language. It is instant feedback.
  2. When people are taking notes – I work hard on my messages and it blesses me when people have notebooks and pens out.
  3. When people come and talk to you afterwards – sometimes it is just they enjoyed it. Other times it is one aspect of the message that really spoke to them.
  4. When they listen online – when some people are away and they miss church, it encourages me to hear they listened online when they got home.
  5. When someone talks about it months later – I have had people say months later one sermon changed their life. And then they recount the points to you.
  6. When people like it on social media – when I put my sermons on our website it goes to Facebook and Twitter. When people like them it is another way of encouraging me.
  7. When people message you – I am always encouraged when people email me, send me a private message or a card in the mail.
  8. When they reach  people all around the world – we are a small country church, but our reach is worldwide. When people read or listen in other places it blesses me heaps.

These are the things that encourage me. I wonder what encourages your Pastor? Maybe some of these things too.

Maybe this week you can do one of these things that will help to encourage them too!

God Bless,
Dave
