Three things God said to me about my new role

October 12th, 2016

When I was about to start my interim role as Pastor of Bruce Rock Church of Christ (BKchurch.org.au) I was a little nervous.

Like anyone who starts a new role, it is normal to have some nerves and be a little unsure in how you will go.

One morning during my devotions, in the section where I ask God if He had anything to say to me, He spoke these words.

“Focus on Me, love the people, be yourself”

As you can imagine they gave me a lot of comfort. They were exactly what I needed to hear. They calmed my nerves and gave me direction.

1. Focus on Me – one of my favourite verses is Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the Kingdom of God…” I do this naturally. It is my heart.

2. Love the people – the great commandment came to mind. “Love God and love your neighbour” (Mark 12:30-31). My desire is to love others with the love of Christ.

3. Be yourself – I know God created me in a certain way, with certain gifts, to do His work. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us all of this. I just needed to relax and be myself.

God knew exactly what I needed to hear. He drew me back to the basics for me. The things I do naturally – seek Him first, love others, be myself In the way He created me to be.

If you are nervous about starting a new ministry, I would encourage you to do these three things Р Focus on God, love His people, be yourself.

God’s Richest Blessings,

Dave
