Why I love being a small church Pastor

August 30th, 2016

In a world that screams bigger is better and more equals success, I have to admit I love the idea of being a small church Pastor.

This is my fourth week of being Pastor of Bruce Rock Church of Christ and by numbers of people we would be considered a small church.

From the church list there are about 45 people connected to the church and about 20-30 come each week. According to the census there are 513 people in town.

Some of the things I really like are…

  • it is easy to get to know everyone
  • you can see when people are away
  • everyone knows everyone really well
  • it feels like a family when you meet together
  • everyone understands the importance of playing their part
  • smaller numbers mean you can visit people more often
  • visitors are easier to notice
  • you can see when someone needs help

These are just some of the things I have noticed in my first few weeks. I am sure there will be more over time.

In saying this though, I am keen to see the church grow bigger as that means we will be reaching more people for Christ and building His Kingdom.

But in the meantime, I am very happy to serve in a church that loves God, loves one another and has a heart to be a blessing to our community.

God Bless,

PS. One of our church members commented another good thing about a small church is you see God moving in peoples lives over the years easier too.
