Christians and Bible reading

November 12th, 2015

One thing I realised as a new Christian was that I had to read and study the Bible. I knew it was a key for my growth.

I learned early on that there is life, wisdom and hope for the future in the Bible. I needed these things and I needed to read and meditate on it daily. I am so glad I did as it has changed my life dramatically.

Many times I have met Christians over the years who are strong, stable and have a peace about them. When I ask them what their secret is, it nearly always comes down to daily prayer and Bible reading.

Over the years I have tried different reading programs. Sometimes it is a chapter a day, a Bible theme a week, or reading between the chapter headings. But is all involves taking time afterwards to think about it.

Taking the reflection time allows the Word to sink in. When we meditate on what we have read it allows the Holy Spirit to work with the Word to change us from the inside out. This is something we all need desperately.

Today I would encourage you to begin reading the Bible each day. Start with a couple of verses and work your way up to a chapter. And make sure you take time to think about what you read and ask God to help you understand and apply it.

We have a number of plans on our Bible readings page that can help. You can find them here.

God Bless,
Dave
