My top five tips for being a great Dad

September 6th, 2015

I love being a Dad. It is one of the great joys of my life. Being a great Dad is one of my major life goals so I work hard at it. Today I thought I would share my top five tips for being a great Dad.

  1. Give them time – Kids spell love T.I.M.E. Spend time when them and go to all their games, school assemblies, training sessions. Be there for them for the late night talks and the pick ups from part time jobs. Talk with them while you are there.
  2. Love your wife – Kids feel safe and secure when they see their Dad loving their Mum. Model to them what a loving marriage is and don’t be afraid to be caught giving your wife a hug.
  3. Speak over them – Tell your kids how awesome they are and that they can do amazing things. Speak life into them. Let them know they have been created by God for a great cause. Build self esteem by being their cheerleader.
  4. Teach them God’s ways – I think the best way by far to prepare your kids for life is to teach them God’s ways. Show them how to read the Bible, how to pray, how to trust God in the good and bad times. Be a role model for following Jesus.
  5. Really love them – This goes without saying. But I mean love them unconditionally. Love them for who they are and the way God created them. Love them for just being and not for what they do or achieve.

These are my top five tips. They are five things I try to put into practice everyday. So far they are working really well. My kids are awesome!!!

God Bless,
Dave
