Depression, suicide and God’s comfort

August 10th, 2015

About six weeks ago someone very close to me committed suicide. They were depressed and life got too much for them. They saw it as a way out.

This is the first time I have been able to speak about it as it is still really raw. In the midst of the pain and disbelief, God has been a source of strength and comfort. Three verses from the Bible have helped.

Psalms 46:1 – God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

Matthew 5:4 – God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Psalms 30:5b – Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.

These verses promise help, comfort and future joy. Three things we all need to get through.

The terrible thing I have found is that suicide is so final. I wish they had of opened up to me, sadly they didn’t.

If you are depressed and feeling suicidal, please please please speak to someone close to you.
