Cold hearts far from God

January 5th, 2015

I was reading Isaiah 29 this morning and I came to verse 13. It talks about people’s hearts being far from God. It says…

“And so the Lord says, “These people say they are Mine. They honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. And their worship of Me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.”

That sounds like a terrible place to be. Praising God with your lips, but your heart is not in it. It sounds like things had become habitual when it used the word rote.

It is interesting that Jesus quoted this passage when he was talking about the Pharisees in Matthew 15:7-9 more than 700 years later.

I never want my relationship with God to be rote like the people in Isaiah’s and Jesus’ days. I never want to praise God with my lips when my heart is not in it. And God doesn’t want that either.

As Christians it is vitally important to keep our relationship with God as first place in our lives. We can’t let the busyness of life drag us away from our daily walk with the Lord.
