Tips to transition to simple house church

November 9th, 2014

Over the last six months or so my wife and I have been transitioning from a traditional church setting to a simple church way of doing things. It has been an interesting journey so far.

If you are thinking about making the transition from traditional church to a simple house church way of doing things, here are a few suggestions that may help you.

1. Focus on your walk with God – read the Bible and spend time alone with God in prayer. Allow His Spirit to guide you on what you should do and how you should do it.

2. Keep connected – keep connected with some Christian friends you enjoy spending time with. Walk with them, talk with them, have meals with them and share your faith to encourage each other.

3. Let things develop naturally – don’t try and jump straight in and try and make it happen if you don’t have a group of people who are naturally forming. Be patient and let God build His church.

4. Do good – look for opportunities to do good to those around. Try to bless family, friends, neighbours and workmates. Share your faith in natural ways and be a blessing.

5. Be positive – be positive and expect the best. If God is calling you to the simple church way, He will bring it to pass. Also keep a positive attitude toward the traditional church. God is building both!

6. Keep giving – look for other ministries that need support. Sponsor a child, support a local cause that is doing good work, support a missionary. Keep being generous financially to bless others.

7. Begin at home – you can begin meeting together at home with your family. Hold a regular meeting where you pray, sing some songs, have communion and read the Bible. God will lead you to invite others in time.

These are some of the things that God has spoken to us about. I hope they help if you are thinking of starting a simple house church.

God Bless,
