Going, going, gone vegan

I have been vegetarian for about 20 years of my life. This means I only eat fruit, vegetables, grains, nuts, legumes, and eat/drink dairy products like milk, yoghurt and cheese.

I decided to do this for health reasons many years ago and it has really helped. I never really felt comfortable eating meat as a child and as an adult my body seems to feel and run better on this type of diet.

More recently I have been looking at my diet again. While I ate lots of healthy food, I still had my times (like most of us) of eating too much chocolate and ice cream and drank too much iced coffee.

The extra dairy products gave me hay fever type allergies of sneezing, sore eyes and throat and a runny nose for a large part of the year. So I have decided to cut them out and go for the vegan alternatives.

It is early days but I have noticed a difference already. My eyes and throat feel a lot better and my sinuses are clearing. My head feels a lot clearer too. And I have more energy already.

As I type I am reminded of the words of Genesis 1. Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food”  (v29).

In the Garden of Eden this is the types of food God gave Adma and Eve to eat. To me it just makes sense to eat this way today too.
