Renewing your mind and old switchboards

February 10th, 2014

I have been thinking about renewing your mind today and the way our thinking changes over time. As I was thinking about it an image of an old switchboard came to mind.

When we still have our old earthly thinking that is conformed to the patterns of this world (Romans 12:2) is active we think and respond how the world responds.

If someone wrongs us we want revenge. If someone hurts us we carry a grudge for years. If we have a problem we try to work it out ourselves. Or we might build up wealth and assets for ourselves and have a warped sense of importance as a result.

Then in comes the re-wiring of the brain “switchboard”. We are wronged and God unplugs the switchboard cable and plugs it into the right response of “vengeance is mine says the Lord”.

We have a problem and try to sort it out and God connects “Trust in me and lean on My understanding”. You hurt me and I will hold a grudge connects to “forgive and you will be forgiven”.

I don’t know about you but when I came to Christ my “switchboard” was old and in desperate need of updating. Thankfully God has been re-wiring it from the inside out to give the right responses.

Slowly I have been renewed and overhauled. However, there are still a few cables that need replacing, but like all of us, I am a work in progress!

God Bless,
