Journeying together as church

November 29th, 2013

For many years as a Christian I just didn’t get church. I knew I should go and when I didn’t I felt like something was missing. But I just didn’t like it.

Being a loner in my old nature didn’t help. I just wanted to live a life of faith by myself. Just me and God, like a hermit living in a cave somewhere.

Eventually I came to see it was not just about me and my faith. It was about us and our faith. We need to travel together on this journey of faith and life. To help, support and encourage each other.

I guess one of the key parts of Scripture that really got me was 1 Corinthians 12:12-31. It talks about being one body with many parts and as Christians we are the body of Christ.

God showed me that the people of God are like a big jigsaw puzzle and all the pieces are needed to complete the picture. Just like a body needs eyes to see, ears to hear, lungs to breath, feet to walk. We all need each other.

Another thing I came to see is that when we all meet together at church I am encouraged by just seeing some of the people there. We may not always talk to each other each week, but I get encouraged by seeing them.

The penny dropped that maybe others are encouraged by seeing me and my family too!

This life of faith we live, is best lived out journeying together with others. It took me a number of years to get it, but I am glad I finally do.

God Bless,
Dave
