Forget not the benefits

November 18th, 2012

I love the first few verses of Psalm 103. It says…

Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

I love the way David praises God and then lists some of the things he is thankful for. He reminds us not to forget the benefits of knowing and walking with God too.

1. God forgives our sin – I still remember the feeling of a weight being lifted off when I came to Jesus and confessed my sin. I felt like I was carrying so many wrong things… and then they were gone.

2. Heals our diseases – He has healed me many times, but the most impacting was being healed of Rheumatoid Arthritis. It was life changing.

3. Redeems our life – He redeems us from the direction of our life we were going and He redeems us from the future destination we were all heading.

4. Crowns us with blessing – He crowns us with love and compassion.

5. Gives us satisfaction – He has given me so much satisfaction in this life when there was none. Gone is the hopelessness and it is replaced by love, hope, purpose and meaning.

6. Renewed strength – I love the imagery of soaring high like an eagle. Floating high on God’s thermal breezes, being lifted higher and higher in Him and His mighty strength.

When I am down or tired or just plain had enough, I often read Psalm 103 and remember the benefits and blessings on knowing God.

God Bless,
