What I have learnt in my studies

February 24th, 2012

Currently I have completed 33 units of Bible College studies. I have been reflecting on the lessons learnt lately. Here are a few things I think I have learnt or more precisely… am still learning!

1. The Bible is God’s Word – after careful study I have no doubt the Bible is God’s Word to mankind. In my opinion it stands way above all other religious books and is the only Book that covers it all.

2. God really loves us – God really moved heaven and earth to be our friends. He didn’t just create this world and leave it to us. He is intimately involved and longs deeply to be a part of our lives.

3. God wants us to live free – God doesn’t want us to be bound up by the past or religious rules. He wants us to live freely in His love, grace and acceptance. We are no longer condemned.

4. Salvation is in Christ – the more I read the Bible and compare its message to other faiths, the more I realise that salvation is found in Christ alone (Acts 4:12, John 14:6).

5. We work with God – God uses flesh and blood, hands and feet, heads and hearts to bring His plans to pass in this world. He wants us to partner in His work that He is already doing in the world.

6. Theology needs love – it is important to understand what we believe, but theology needs to be wrapped up in love. Caring and compassion go hand in hand with good theology.

7. We have a Helper – we don’t live this Christian life alone. We have the Holy Spirit in full measure – the same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside each one of us who calls Jesus Lord and Saviour (Romans 8:11).

8. Made by God – none of us are here by chance. We are all made by God, for this time in history, and we all have a wonderful purpose to be here. We need to live that way.

9. We need each other – my natural tendency to be a loner will not allow me to be all God wants me to be. I need others and others need me. We need to see this life as not just my journey, but our journey together.

10. Only scratching the surface – the more I have studied, the more I realised that I will only ever scratch the surface of who God is and what He has done for us. I could study the Bible for the rest of my days, but I would still not know it all.

There you have it. Some of the things I have learnt through my studies. Most of them I knew to some degree, but the studies have really helped me to dig a lot deeper and solidify what I knew.

Somehow I still feel there is a long way to go and there is a lot that still needs to be learned as I said in point number 10!

God Bless,
Dave
