Being a joy to your leaders

May 8th, 2010

The Bible tells us in Hebrews 13:17 to “Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit”.

As I read this verse it makes me think about the importance of listening to the people God has placed in spiritual authority over me. People like my Minister and the Elders at my church.

I am also very thankful that God has put these people in my life – people who are concerned for me and “watch over my soul”. They want what is best for me and my family and they want to see me grow in my faith and trust in God.

The other thing that springs to mind is what ways can I give them a reason to have joy that they are watching over me. What ways can I encourage them and thank them for their work. I want to “give them reason to do this with joy”.

How about you? What ways can you appreciate the people who are in spiritual authority over you today? What ways can you make their work a joy?

Let’s all purpose in our hearts to bring joy to our spiritual leaders because they are watching over us.

God Bless,
Dave
