Jesus’ hours on the cross

April 2nd, 2010

I was reading my Bible this morning and I came across a section titled, “Jesus’ hours on the cross”. It is uses the Bible story and includes a timeline of when events happened.

Some are accurate because they are mentioned in the Scriptures, while others are slotted in at the approximate time they happened.

I found this quite powerful as I reflected on Jesus’ death today.

6.15am – Jesus before Pilate (Mark 15:1)
6.50am – Sen to Herod (Luke 23:6-10)
7.40am – Returned to Pilate (Luke 23:11)
7:50am – Sentenced to death (Luke 23:23-24)
8.30am – Lead to Calvary (Luke 23:26)
9.00am – Crucified on the “third hour” (Luke 23:33, Mark 15:25)
10.10am – The soldiers divided His clothes (Mark 15:24), Jesus asked God to forgive them (Luke 23:34)
10.30am – Passes by urged Jesus to come down from the cross if He was the Christ (Matthew 27:39-40)
10.45am – The chief priests said, “He saved others but He can’t save Himself” (Mark 15:31)
10.50am – The solders mocked Jesus, “Are you the Christ, save yourself” (Luke 23:36-37)
11.00am – One of the criminals mocked Jesus, “If you are the Christ, saved yourself and us” (Luke 23:39), The other criminal asked Jesus to remember him when He came as King (Luke 23:40,42), Jesus assured Him he will be with Him in Paradise (Luke 23:43)
11.15am – Jesus asked a Disciple to take care of His mother (John 19:26-27)
12.00pm – Darkness came over the whole earth at the sixth hour for three hours (Mark 15:33)
2.30pm – Jesus cried, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me” (Matthew 27:46)
2.50pm – Jesus cries, “I am thristy” (John 19:28)
2.55pm – Jesus says, “It is finished” (John 19:30)
3.00pm – Jesus says, “Father, into Your hands I commit my Spirit” (Luke 23:46)

As I type, I weep at the magnitude of what Jesus has done for me.

May God bless you this Easter as you remember Him and what He has done for you.
