Building your encouragement bank balance

January 30th, 2010

One of the things I believe we need as Christians is encouragement. Life does get tough at times and we need to build up our “bank balance” of encouragement. This helps us to live a little higher and survive the negative things when they come our way.

I have a few things I do to keep my encouragement bank balance up nice and high. Here are a few…

  • In the mornings I pray and read my Bible first thing. This helps me to connect with God and start me off right. It helps me to get my mind set on things above not below (Colossians 3:2).
  • When I am working I usually have some time at lunch time where I read blogs of positive Christians. I love following Pastors as they share their Bible lessons and talk about what is going on in their churches. This inspires me.
  • I usually visit the Our Daily Bread website once per day. This helps me to reflect and be encouraged. Often it starts me off on a tangent which ends up in a Bible study or blog post.
  • I keep all positive emails. I have a special folder on my computer called encouragement. Every now and then I read through the emails to pump myself up.
  • I touch base with positive encouraging people. There are some people who just encourage and build you up. As one of my friends says “Iron sharpens iron” (Proverbs 27:17). I love being built up by good people.
  • I pass on to others the encouraging things I learn or hear. My philosophy is whatever I get or hear that is positive, I pass it on. Then I get encouraged as I see the other person built up. It’s a double portion!

These are the things I do to keep my encouragement levels up nice and high. As I do them I can almost hear an old fashioned cash register going “Ka-ching”!

Life does get tough at times, so keep your encouragement bank balance up nice and high.

God Bless,

Dave
