Finished reading the NT
October 6th, 2009
I finished my reading challenge for this year today. My goal was to read the New Testament of the Bible in a different version that I usually use (NIV).
I started out reading The Message version, but changed the Contemporary English Version as it was a bit too different for me. Once I got through the Gospels I changed to the New Living Tranlastion. So while it wasn’t one version all the way through I still managed to get there!
For me it was a good experience. It was good to read the Bible in a different version as it caused me to see things through different eyes and caused me to dig deeper in a few places. It was also good to re-read the NT after my Bible college studies last year. I found I read with new background knowledge.
So what were my favourite books? The books I really enjoyed were Luke, Acts and 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus. These ones really jumped out at me and spoke to me a lot. I feel changed, renewed and inspired as a result of reading them.
Perhaps next year you could follow my lead and read one chapter of the New Testament a day? I think I will be doing the Old Testament one chapter a day and see how that goes!
God Bless,
Dave
