The nightly news

September 25th, 2009

Several months ago I made a conscious decision not to watch the nightly news on TV. I found the constant stream of bad news with graphic images was very depressing. It was so sad to hear a list of all the dreadful things that are going on in the world without hearing the positive things.

As a result of not watching the news (and the current affairs shows too) I feel more positive about life in general and it is easier to see the good and encouraging things that are going on around me. The way I see things is not coloured by what other people think is news and what they think I need to know.

As a result of this news ban I don’t really feel less informed. I still talk to people about what is going on and every now and then I log on to news websites to have a quick scan of the headlines. So I still know what is going on in the world, I just see it without all the graphic images and I can pick and chose what I read.

For me, it has been an interesting experience and one I think I will stick with long term. How about you?

God Bless,

Dave
