Goals and assists

April 27th, 2009

Back in my teens I used to play Ice Hockey. It was a great fast game that required a lot of fitness, skill and toughness. One of the many things I really liked about this sport is that they honoured goals and assists equally.

Most sports really honour the goal scorer only. They get paid the most and are often held up as the biggest heroes. In Ice Hockey though the person who passes the puck to the goal scorer is equally reverred.

I really like this honouring of the assisting role. Like the goal scorer in Ice Hockey or the Pastor in church, they would not be able to do what they do without the help and support of the people around them.

Perhaps today we could take some time to honour and thank those around us who “pass the puck” to us so we can score goals in our lives and the lives of others. I am sure they would really appreciate it!
