Caring for the carers

December 2nd, 2008

One of the things that has been on my heart and mind lately is caring for the carers in my life. By this I mean caring for those who are regularly giving of themselves and are spending most of their time looking after others.

Most carers I have spoken to over the years find themselves energised by this type of work and really enjoy playing a positive role in the lives of others. But like all of us, things get on top of them at times and they might need some care of their own. Often the carers find it hard to ask for help or prayer because they are the ones who do the praying for everyone else.

My heart at the moment is to check in every week or so with those in my life who care for people. I just want to catch up with them, see how things are going and ask if they have any prayer needs. This might seem like a small thing in the grand scheme of things, but I think it can be big if the carer is going through something and they are finding it hard to talk about or ask for prayer.

How about you? Have you got any carers in your life that might need a call, some encouragement or some prayer? A simple call, email or card might make a big difference to them today.
