The Holy Spirit zone

October 15th, 2008

One of the things I have found over the years is that when the Holy Spirit moves, ministry is a lot easier and a lot more effective.

In many cases I have found that when I feel God wants to do something in a preaching/ministry situation, I just pray and ask the Holy Spirit to move and ask if He wants me to take part. If He says yes, I then just stand there and listen for the promptings and do the things that I am asked to do without getting in the way or trying to take over.

I call this prompting and moving the Holy Spirit zone. It is when I just try my best to step aside and let Him reign. When I am in this position my desire is just to focus on Him ministering to people and playing my small part.

It is amazing when you see the results of this. Prophetic words flow, words of knowledge happen and people are healed and set free.

I think the key thing to remember when ministering is that everything Jesus did on earth was by the power of the Holy Spirit. We see that He was conceived by the Spirit (Luke 1:34-35), He ministered and performed miracles by the power of the Spirit (Luke 4:18-21), and He was raised from the dead by the Spirit (1 Peter 3:18).

Moving in the Holy Spirit zone makes ministry a lot more effective and satisfying. Rather than me trying to minister to people out of my lack, it is more about God ministering through the Holy Spirit out of His abundance.

The awesome thing is that God’s work gets done and we get to play our small part in it. In many ways it is like we are partnering with God in His eternal plans. It is an awesome feeling.
