A space for Him

As a teenager and into my early twenties I walked around with what felt like a giant hole inside me. I didn’t know what is was, but I knew something was just not quite right. It was sort of like something was missing. When I came to Christ in 1989 I realised this feeling slowly went away and in time it was filled. For the first time in my life I felt "complete". As I look back now I have realised three things about this hole.

1. It was put there by God

He placed this void or hole inside each of us so we would feel not quite right. Most of us at some time of our lives start to question this feeling and search for what is missing. We search for the missing piece of the jigsaw inside us.

2. We try and fill it ourselves

As a teenager I tried to fill this hole with many things like alcohol, drugs, sport, friends, sex, cars, work ect…but nothing seemed to fit. They were like square pegs in a round hole. Nothing really hit that “spot”. No matter what I did, I just couldn't get the feeling of not be complete to go away.

3. It can only be filled by God

Looking back now I realise this hole inside me was God shaped. He made a place for Him inside me. I did my best to fill with all kinds of stuff. But only He could hit the “spot”.

The Bible tells us that we can fill that hole that is inside of us. God created you to be in personal relationship with Him. He wants to walk and talk with you everyday. Just like He did with Adam and Eve way back in the Garden of Eden.

The Bible says in John 14:6. "Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me". This verse tells us that if we want to begin a relationship with God, we need to go through Jesus to do it.

The Bible also says in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life". God loves you so much that He sent Jesus to die on the cross for your sin. The sin that separates you from a relationship with God and that makes that void inside of you.

The good news is that you can begin a relationship with God by accepting Jesus into your life and by praying a short prayer to express your heart to Him.

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus,
I come to you now and ask you to come into my life. Come in and be with me and fill this hole inside of me. I want to be in a personal relationship with You. Thank you for the Easter story. Thank you that you came and died on the cross for my sin. Right now I ask you to forgive my sin. Jesus, I ask you to come and walk side by side with me each day. Please give me a meaning and a purpose and help me to live for you. Amen

What next?

I prayed this prayer back in 1989 and my life has never been the same. It was the start of a wonderful journey of discovery. The whole inside me was filled and I was now in relationship with God.
